Unit Director's Message

unit directors message by ken fontes

I am excited and honored to have been named Unit Director of the Wareham Unit of the Boys & Girls Club of Greater New Bedford/Wareham.  I feel fortunate to follow Barbara Sullivan in this role; over the past 8 years Barbara, her staff and volunteers have built a strong Club with deep roots in our community.  Going forward I see my job as building on those accomplishments and, with the help of the entire community, taking our Club to The Next Level, where
  • We will have a larger staff, enabling us to offer more programs
  • We will have a larger facility, enabling us to serve more children
  • We will be able to expand our hours of operation, benefiting youth and families alike.
  • We will become a community resource, sharing our facilities to assist other groups and
  • We will enlist business and academic partners to share their expertise and resources with our children.
These are ambitious goals but I am confident that over time, and with your help, they can be reached.
I am pleased to announce that Larry Senna has joined our team as Program Coordinator.  Larry has years of experience in helping children in Wareham through his involvement in youth programs and as Assistant coach for the Wareham High School Basketball Vikings.  Larry is also the owner of L.S. Computers in Onset; his computer knowledge will be valuable in helping us as we add new programs.
Our staff also includes Joyce Gloddy who has been with the Club since August 2008 as the Administrative Assistant.  Joyce was a valuable resource for Mrs. Sullivan and I'm thrilled she will remain in the same position on our staff.  Joyce is responsible for all of the finances and accounting for the Club.
I hope that everyone in Wareham and the surrounding communities will feel free to call me with questions or concerns regarding the Club and its future.
Like every non-profit organization, we depend on donations from individuals, corporations and foundations to help pay for the services we offer.  In the past many of you have supported the Club through the annual Kukoo Gala and Auction or by contributing to our Annual Appeal.  Some of you have volunteered your time and expertise to the Club, becoming directly involved in the programs and activities we provide.  I thank all of you for your past support and I hope that you will continue to assist the Wareham Club in the future.
